This Too Shall Pass
I’ve recently become a believer in the classic saying, “this too shall pass”. Hardships may take a while and it may seem like there’s no way out, but there is. It’s important to always remember your past, but it’s equally as important not to dwell on it. Your past helps mold you into the person you are meant to become, but you can’t live in the past. There comes a moment when you have to accept its lessons and move on.
When healing, you learn to find a sense of peace. Once you find that, your true happiness will come to the surface because you stop doubting yourself and you start believing in yourself and all the things you’re capable of. There is freedom once you reach the point of understanding that whatever was holding you down no longer has the power to control you. We get so caught up in the difficulty that we never really believe that we are worthy or we can do better. Many people struggle with the healing process and give up because healing can be lonely and isolating. Happiness may feel far away but it’s so important to understand you are in control of your happiness. You can’t get it from people or objects - it has to come from within.
For quite some time I believed that happiness came from external things - people, objects, success, etc. but I’ve learned that true happiness is waking up in the morning with a heart full of gratitude for your life and the little things - a beautiful flower that’s blooming, a smile from a friend, an encouraging word from someone you love. Sometimes we’re so caught up in our circumstances that we miss the small blessings within each day because our thoughts are set on the people and situations that knock us down, but we must appreciate the small things. It’s acknowledging the small things that help turn our hearts and attitude around to a place of healing and love.
I say, this too shall pass. I would always say that quote, but I truly believe it now. Those words used to be just that, words, but now I know that time heals all things and hard times won’t stay forever.
So as I walk into this new season of my life, I appreciate it so much more.
